Our Tampines Hub food guide: The best picks you have to try

01 • Ramen Hitoyoshi

(Photo: Deliveroo)

If you skip Ramen Hitoyoshi, are you even a Japanese food fan? This restaurant specialises in the tonkotsu ramen dish, known for its savoury and strong umami notes.

Pay special attention to its homemade Chashu (braised pork), which oozes a juicy tenderness when paired with its accompanying broth. You’ll find it in dishes like the Special Chashu Tonkotsu ($18.90) or the Special Chashu Garlic Tonkotsu ($19.90).

Complete your meal with Ramen Hitoyoshi’s expansive range of side dishes, such as Pork Gyoza ($6.50 for 5 pieces), which wraps a fresh filling of pork in a delightfully crispy exterior. 😋

02 • Gado & Grill

(Photo: Foodpanda)

Gado & Grill promises to deliver a wallet-friendly yet delicious experience of Indonesian cuisine. Their main crowd puller is the Grilled Chicken ($7), which consists of a large serving of well-marinated chicken thigh accompanied by rice drizzled with spicy and fragrant curry. From the chicken’s smoky taste to the flavours of the curry, a serving of this dish is sure to satisfy your spice cravings.

Other popular dishes also include the Chunky Satay ($7). The generous portion of meat on each skewer and its tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture make it a fan favourite.

Gado & Grill’s NasiGO ($7) is another must-try. This dish is a unique take on the traditional fried rice, but this one goes the extra mile to impress you with its aromatic Indonesian essence and golden crispy chicken.

03 • Botak Cantonese Porridge

(Photo: Botak Cantonese Porridge)

Think good hawker food can only be found in popular hawker centres like Old Airport Road or Maxwell? One Tampines Hub’s hawker centre will prove you wrong with its selection of stalls serving up mouthwatering fare — and Botak Cantonese Porridge is no exception.

Despite its humble appearance, the stall’s porridge is expertly cooked to a thick yet smooth consistency. It provides an excellent, starchy backdrop to the slight saltiness of the minced pork. Elevate your piping hot porridge with add-ons like the crispy Youtiao ($0.80) or the creamy century egg ($1.20).

04 • Munchi Pancakes

(Photo: Foodpanda)

Another proud addition to Our Tampines Hub’s food scene is Munchi Pancakes, one of the most highly-rated min jiang kueh stalls in Singapore. The peanut flavour ($1.80), in particular, was my favourite. The creamy spread turned into melty goodness when it came into contact with the hot pancake, and it also had that occasional crunch, which made every bite so satisfying.

There are also gourmet flavours like Oreo Cheese ($2.20), whose chocolatey Oreo pairs perfectly with the milky cheese. The mild saltiness of the cheese dials the sweetness of the pancake just enough to give you the best of both worlds. Every bite into Munchi Pancakes’ spongy, mouth-watering pancakes is an explosion of rich flavour.

05 • Saap Saap Thai

(Photo: Miss Tam Chiak)

Calling all Thai food lovers! Saap Saap Thai brings with it a little slice of Thailand, thanks to authentic dishes like the tangy tom yum soup and the Thai crispy chicken.

Their flagship dishes, however, are part of the Signature Noodle series. I can’t stop raving about the Signature Beef Boat Noodle ($9.90), which comes with a generous portion of beef slices doused in an aromatic soup. The soup contains lingering hints of Taojiew (fermented soybean paste), known for its unmissable fragrance, traces of black pepper that lend a subtle heat, and a certain addictive brine characteristic of high-quality fish sauce.

What’s a Thai meal without some sweet mangoes? That’s why you should wrap up your visit with one of their mango dishes. Best-sellers include the Pomelo Mango Sago ($5.90), which contains juicy mango bites combined with chewy sago balls.

06 • NeNe Chicken

(Photo: Deliveroo)

Got a hankering for Korean fried chicken? You can count on NeNe Chicken to satiate those hunger pangs. Whether you love wings and drumsticks or you’re more of a boneless chicken lover, this restaurant will not disappoint.

Their array of tender and savoury chicken options comes coated with a layer of crispy skin for maximum bite satisfaction. Famous flavours include Honey Mustard, Cheese, Soy, and even Mala, so there’s something for every palate. My favourite is the Swicy flavour. It’s a step back from the spice of Mala, yet you’ll still detect a pleasant tinge of heat. It’s the perfect choice if you want some chilli without the pain.

Bring the whole squad down to NeNe chicken and you can enjoy their many sharing bundles, such as the Whole Chicken ($30.90) or the famed Cheese Pull Chicken Hotplate ($38.90). Yummers! 😋

07 • Shiok Burger

(Photo: AC Ventures)

If you feel like sinking your teeth into a classic burger but need a break from McDonald’s or KFC, Shiok Burger has got you covered. What sets them apart from other fast food chains is their inventive menu. We’re sure there aren’t many places in town dishing out options like Ebiko Chicken Burger and Mala Wagyu Burger.

On occasion, they also release new items to give you an unforgettable dining experience. Their most recently released Wasabi Chicken Burger ($8) packs a bold, spicy punch to its juicy chicken thigh. Don’t forget to get a drink to go with it — you’ll need it. 🥵

The best part about these burgers is that they’re so affordable, which is surprising considering the plethora of unique options available.

08 • Shake Shake in a Tub

(Photo: Shake Shake in a Tub)

One of Singapore’s most underrated finger food chains, Shake Shake in a Tub has always been consistent with the quality and taste of their food. Their large menu includes both sweet and savoury treats like Sweet Potato Balls ($5) and Chicken Corn Dog ($3.80) to satisfy a wide range of cravings.

If you’re heading to Our Tampines Hub with friends or family, grab one of their various combos to share, or simply order the Super Giant Fries ($10.80), which packs more fries than you can dream of. What’s more, you can also mix and match different flavours like Sweet Chilli BBQ and Mala to add more character to your fries.

09 • Gong Yuan Mala Tang

(Photo: Royal T Group)

Who doesn’t love a well-prepared serving of mala? If you live in Tampines or plan to swing by the area, Gong Yuan Mala Tang is the perfect place to quell your chilli calls.

The simmering mala soup base infuses every ingredient in it with a tingling Sichuan spice. When paired with classic Mala additions like pork belly and lotus root, the broth delivers an electrifying touch. For those who can’t tolerate much heat, go for other bases like Tomato Soup and Pork Bone Soup.

Got a big appetite? I highly recommend the Pork Chives Dumpling ($5.90 for 6 pieces). The smooth dumpling skin explodes when bitten and releases a lush and juicy filling. The pork is finely minced with undertones of garlic and ginger.

10 • Penang Savour

(Photo: YewTee Point)

Fight me on this, but I think few cuisines match up to Penang food. It’s well-rounded and endowed with myriad flavours, like spicy, sweet, and tangy.

Fortunately, you don’t have to travel up north to sit down for a hearty Penang meal. Located conveniently in Our Tampines Hub, Penang Savour delivers just what you’ll find in the northern Malaysian state.

Its menu features many classic dishes, but I can’t get enough of the Penang Fried Kuay Teow ($6.40). The stir-fried noodles doused in soy sauce and loaded with prawns, fishcakes, bean sprouts, and eggs pack the right blend of tze char and saltiness. Don’t you agree that sometimes, it’s the simplest meal like this that makes us the happiest?

It’s a sin to leave a Penang restaurant without indulging in its coconutty goodness. Remember to try the Penang Chendol with Red Beans ($3.20). It’s a sweet, earthy dessert that’ll almost fool you into thinking you’re sitting in Gurney Drive.

11 • The Summer Acai

(Photo: Foodpanda)

If you haven’t had acai before, this is your sign to try the berry smoothie. High in antioxidants and fibre, and usually paired with nutritious toppings like fruits and nuts, it’s versatile enough to be had at any time of the day.

At The Summer Acai, you can get your fix of a delicious blend of acai and a sorbet of your choice, topped with quality ingredients. Their menu caught my eye for 2 reasons: quirky names and unique combos.

For example, the basic Basic Bitch bowl ($10.20) comes with a combination of tropical fruits and juicy berries on a thick and creamy acai base. You can also find more adventurous options like the Yuzu Punch ($11.10), which comes with a fun yuzu kick to the otherwise mellow acai taste.

12 • Churros Republic

(Photo: Churros Republic)

Aren’t churros every sugar connoisseur’s comfort food?

Recognised as a Michelin Preferred Brand, Churros Republic is a snack haven committed to serving you exquisitely handcrafted churros. Their much-raved-about Glazed Churros ($2.20 for 1) come dipped head-to-toe in a combination of sauces and toppings, like Hazelnut, Salted Caramel, Rainbow Rice, and Marshmallows. Imagine licking them off before biting into the piping hot, crispy golden dough! 🤤

The menu also includes Churros Ice Cream ($2.90), crafted sodas ($4.90), and their famous Butterscotch Brew ($5.90) to ensure you leave with a snack coma. I loved the Churros Ice Cream, a cone of soft serve ice cream with a triumphantly planted churro stick. This decadent dessert combined the silkiness of the ice cream and the delicious crunch of churros — polar opposite textures that just worked so well together. 🤩
