Did you know that the Taiwan Night Market at Waterway Point in Punggol is back for the second year? From now until 25 May, head down to enjoy an array of street food and vibey performances at B1, The Plaza and B2, The Cove. Sounds like the perfect weekend plan, doesn’t it? Let’s take a look at some of the bestsellers. ✨

01 • Taiwan Crispy Chicken

While you can expect many new stalls to hit the Taiwanese Night Market this year, some classic ones have returned, including the flagship Taiwanese crispy chicken stall! Sink your teeth into the juicy and crunchy chicken chops. They come in 4 flavours — Original, Honey, Salted, and Sesame Seed — and start from $5.50.

The store also sells other sides like Fried Sour Plum Sweet Potato ($4) and Fried Enoki Mushroom ($5) that pack an umami punch to pair with your chicken.

02 • Handmade Sweet Potato Balls

Another classic from last year’s edition is the Handmade Sweet Potato Balls from OMG, which go for an affordable $5 for 10 pieces. These chewy balls ooze their natural sweetness into your tongue with every bite, and make for perfect finger food as you browse the many other stores and offerings available at the night market.

03 • Huo Yan Shan Zi Niu

If you have a larger appetite, head over to Huo Yan Shan Zi Niu and treat yourself to the Braised Pork Rice ($5.50). It’s one of Taiwanese cuisine’s signature dishes, known for its savoury and rich flavours.

You’ll also find other equally delectable dishes to fill your hunger, like the Shark Fin Soup ($2.50) and Beef Cube Rice ($13). My favourite is the Nacho Beef ($13), where the slight saltiness of the nacho cheese and the rich tenderness of the beef make a dynamic duo of flavours.

04 • Fried stinky tofu

Stinky tofu fans, you’re wanted! The fried stinky tofu stall’s expansive menu includes different tofu bases, such as Changsha White and Black Bean, and a wide range of different flavours, like Minced Garlic Chilli Soup Base and Pickled Vegetables Signature Mala Sauce. Beware, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The items start from $7.50 for a small portion. If you’re visiting with friends or family, you can order a large portion because everything tastes better when shared. 🥰

05 • 3% Taiwanese-Style Milk Tea

Can a Taiwanese night market truly be one without milk tea? Thankfully, 3% Taiwanese-Style Milk Tea is here to quench your thirst and give you an authentic gastronomic experience. My recommendations are the Jasmine Green Milk Tea and the White Peach Oolong Milk Tea, both of which were super-refreshing without any cloying aftertaste. Both drinks go for $4 for 500ml and $7 for 700ml.

06 • Dong Dong Xie Ji Zan Zai

Perhaps the most popular store at the Taiwanese night market is Dong Dong Xie Ji Zan Zai, which serves delicious Crocs-shaped egg waffles. These pancakes are popular not just because of their interesting shape, but also because of their addictive sweet-and-savoury flavour. Pick either the Ham flavour, Cheese Corn, or Coklo Coco — or just grab them all for just $6 a pair.

07 • Hao Shi Hua Sheng

For that perfect dessert experience, Hao Shi Hua Sheng is the place to be. The first thing you should attack is the peanut ice cream rolls. These decadent treats come in 6 different flavours, including Vanilla, Matcha, and Strawberry. At just $3 per serving, they’re the perfect way to round up your experience at the Taiwanese night market.
