Every neighbourhood has that old uncle with the pet birds. He’s often found lepak-ing at a coffeeshop, not a care in the world, looking perfectly casual with the colourful birds perched on his shoulder. Uncle has the right idea — birds often make for good companions because of their friendliness, intelligence, and lively melodies. Although less common than the average dog or cat as a pet, they’re a good alternative for those looking for something lower-maintenance.

Still, raising a pet is a big responsibility. If you’re thinking about getting a bird, we’ve rounded up the 5 best bird shops in Singapore that are ethical and knowledgeable in bird care, so you can rest assured that you’re in safe hands.
