For Northies, Causeway Point is one of the best malls to visit. Not only is it connected to Woodlands MRT, but it’s a short walk away from Woodlands Library and the new Woods Square, so there are tons of places to shop and eat at.
Stores have come and gone over the years, but the food here remains mouth-wateringly delicious. The place is pretty close to Singapore Customs (hence the name) so lots of the food here is Halal-certified, too! Here are some of my favourite spots.
01 • Ah Ma Chi Mian

If you’re looking for a comforting meal, this is the place for you. Ah Ma Chi Mian is a Teochew noodle restaurant serving warm and nostalgic meals that taste just like how Grandma used to make them. The place is especially known for their ginormous homemade fishballs — these are fresher than your commercial kind, with a soft and springy bite. Try their Speciality Yuan Yang King Noodle Combo Meal ($11.70) for meatballs, fishballs, noodles, and a drink of your choice, which in this economy is definitely a steal.

02 • Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak

55 years of authentic homemade fare have won this place the Hawker Heritage Award. Once a humble little stall in Boon Lay Place Food Village, they’ve since begun opening a few outlets throughout Singapore, with one right here in Causeway Point.
They’re especially loved for their steamed rice, which uses high-quality extra virgin coconut oil and smells absolutely delicious. The rest of their iconic Nasi Lemak isn’t far behind, either — crispy fried chicken, crunchy ikan bilis, and yummy homemade sambal.

Succulent chicken, beef, salmon, and unagi, all certified Halal and paired with premium Niigata rice — what more could you ask for?

04 • Bali Thai

Can’t decide between Thai or Indonesian food? Choose both by going to Bali Thai. This fusion restaurant blends the two cuisines together expertly with their authentic and flavourful dishes. Real sambal + real Thai green curries = A real kick.
Their decor might make them look pretty high-end, but don’t be fooled! They offer decent value-for-money sets, especially their 2-pax sets ($38 / $48) that come with an appetiser, a main course, meat, vegetables, and dessert.

Their Original Cheese Tart ($3.40) is a soft and creamy blend of 3 speciality cheeses with a crumbly pastry crust. 07 • Poulet

Get a taste of Paris at Poulet, a chic and modern bistro that offers affordable French cuisine for everyone. And when I say affordable, I mean affordable — unlike typically expensive French restaurants, Poulet’s prices sit firmly in the $10–$30 range, so it’s the perfect place to bring your friends and family to.
Their signature dish, of course, is the poulet, or French Roast Chicken (Half $17.90 / Whole $32.90). Fresh, never frozen, and brined overnight with an in-house secret recipe, the meat turns out amazingly tender and succulent. Choose from 4 signature sauces, from classic mushroom to traditional Diane (brown sauce) for a lip-smackingly good meal.

Fresh seafood, served straight from the pan. Fish & Co takes their inspiration from the high seas of the Mediterranean, where simple fishermen would cook and eat fish immediately from their pans. With generous portions and a casual, friendly atmosphere, they’re a popular spot for the whole family, especially with their Value Lunch sets ($10.95) that come with salad, paella rice, and a drink, and over 20 options for the main course. O9 • Chicken Ka Kee

I’m always on the lookout for good chicken rice, and this place, though a little more expensive than your regular hawker fare, definitely ranks high on my list. Chicken Ka Kee is a Halal chicken rice place established by the second generation of Boon Tong Kee (Yes, THAT Boon Tong Kee), and it’s quickly become a favourite amongst Northies for their Signature Chicken Rice Set ($10.80) with unlimited (!!) rice refills.
Little-known fact: They’re actually a collaboration between Boon Tong Kee and Jinjja Chicken, so their fried chicken dishes are no joke, either!

10 • Butter & Cream Bakery

When Butter & Cream Bakery first opened a few years ago, I remember their queue stretching out the front door; it was THAT popular. Nowadays, they still receive steady lines during peak hours and weekends for their delicious pastries. Rather than grab-and-go breads, the bakery specialises in simple, classic treats like cakes, egg tarts, and muffins. Their muffins are the star of the show here— moist and rich while being not too sweet, with some interesting flavours like Yuzu Earl Grey Cheese ($3.50) and Marshmallow ($2.90).

This homegrown heritage brand has been quietly chugging along since 1958, with its nostalgic local food delighting many. Shui Kueh, or “water rich cake”, is their namesake dish— silky-smooth steamed rice cakes topped with preserved radish and dried chilli paste. It’s a simple but flavourful dish that really packs a punch.

With a bright orange storefront, this cheerful restaurant next to Popular is sure to catch your eye. The Dim Sum Place is a local brand that serves Halal Hong Kong–style dim sum, handmade and freshly prepared daily. There aren’t many Halal dim sum places in Singapore, so this restaurant certainly stands out! Their Steamed Chicken and Mala Xiao Long Bao Combo ($8.90) are by far the crowd favourite, with rich and savoury soup broth in every bite.
