I am incredibly envious of anyone who lives in Marine Parade. The huge Parkway Parade mall and easy access to East Coast Park are already enough to make it one of my favourite places in Singapore. As if Marine Parade didn’t already have enough cool places, iMall has just recently opened there, spoiling its residents with two stunning malls.

Curious to see what iMall has in store? From delicious food, to a 24/7 gym, to a vibrant kids playground, here’s what you can expect in Singapore’s newest mall.

01 • TANG² Malatang

(Photo: Neon)

Mala tang has always been such a curious concept to me. It combines the spicy kick of mala with the nourishing comfort of soup. It seems like it shouldn’t work, but it does, and TANG² Malatang’s mala tang is the perfect example of this.

They have all the usual ingredients you’d expect from any mala spot, but what sets them apart is their signature broths. Brewed for over 2 hours daily and containing 24 different types of herbs, their broths showcase their dedication to cooking you the perfect mala tang. The Mala Broth looks intimidatingly spicy, but its spice was flavourful, making each bite so painfully good. Every ingredient absorbed the flavour of the broth — each bite’s just kissed with the savoury spice.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try some of their other broths, like the Sauerkraut Broth. It might not sound appealing at first, but the broth’s tang was not overwhelming. Just enough to assert its presence in the bowl; but not hijack the fresh flavours of your favourite ingredients.

02 • SHIKAO

(Photo: Shikao)

Hungry for an authentic Chinese grilled fish feast? You’re in luck, because Shikao finally has its first Singaporean branch right here at iMall. The restaurant chain has over 200 branches in China, delighting its customers with its flavourful grilled fish with tofu speciality, and now we get to experience the same.

The team chose to try its signature dish: the Chongqing Tofu Grilled Fish ($48.90). The moment the platter arrived at the table, I was slapped by a wall of the dish’s fragrance. Led by the characteristic Sichuan peppercorn aroma, each bite was laced with the party of herbs. And the meat was so tender it fell from the bone. When doused in the broth, it had an unashamedly sweet and savoury taste.

But the real star of the dish was the tofu. I’ve never been one to really enjoy tofu because it’s quite plain, so it was hard for me to imagine how they could take it to a new level. But man, the tofu was like a sponge, soaking up all the flavours of the broth to create a soft explosion with every bite. It’s an ingenious addition to the dish, and tasted simply divine. 😋

03 • Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea

(Photo: Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea)

Whenever I am in need of a refreshing drink to help me beat the heat, Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea is my go-to place. Unfortunately, they do not have many outlets in Singapore, so it’s great news that they are blessing iMall with their presence. They pride themselves on their fully natural flavours, needing no artificial additives to thoroughly please your taste buds.

You can’t go wrong with their namesake drink, the Yi Fang Fruit Tea ($5.90 for a medium cup). The drink is a harmonious medley of various fruits, with each sip revealing more and more of its composition. From the sweetness of the pineapple to the citrussy notes of passion fruit, it is an utterly satisfying drink for the fruit lover.

Alternatively, you can treat yourself to some of their more indulgent drinks, like the Mango Pomelo Sago ($8.20 for a medium cup). As a self-proclaimed mango connoisseur, I absolutely loved the fresh, high-quality mango in the drink. The chewy sago balls in the drink were a delightful addition too. 10/10, would recommend.

Okay, this one’s for the girlies — try out Concept Nailz Spa at iMall. This all-in-one nail salon and spa is a peaceful oasis for you to forget your worries and simply relax. Treat yourself to a pedicure (starting from $45) and a manicure (starting from $35), where the friendly and welcoming staff will take great care to shape and polish your nails. Sit back, relax, and let them work their magic. ✨

While I was never really a self-care kinda person, things are slowly changing.
