Where to get your fix during durian season in Singapore

Durian season is back, and with it a sharp, funky, unmistakably divisive smell. The main season typically runs from June to September, with a smaller window in November and December. Last year, prices dropped by almost 50% thanks to the plentiful harvest, but there’s no guarantee that we’ll be as lucky this year, so be sure to lock in your durians before things get too heated up.

Whether you're a seasoned durian kaki or someone who's been quietly curious but hasn't taken the plunge yet, here's where to head this season.

01. Combat Durian

Combat Durian has been in the game for over 50 years, and the queue at their Rangoon Road stall during peak season says everything you need to know. They source from their own plantation in Malaysia, and the quality control is tight. Sellers have been known to turn customers away on days when the stock isn't up to standard rather than sell something they're not proud of.

I've been here a few times, and Combat Durian’s MSW is consistently creamy, with that deep golden flesh and clean bittersweet finish that keeps people coming back. The Black Gold variant, which is a premium Old Tree MSW, is worth the splurge if it's available. WhatsApp them before heading down to confirm stock and pricing.

02. Ah Seng Durian

Ask any Westie where to get their durian fix, and Ah Seng will come up within seconds. This family-run stall at Ghim Moh Market has been at it for over 40 years, and they've built a loyal following by keeping things honest — transparent pricing, fresh daily stock from Malaysia, and a team that'll help you pick based on your preferences.

Their MSW is among the more consistently good ones I've tried in Singapore, especially during peak season when the flesh is firmer and less watery. They also have an Alexandra outlet if Ghim Moh isn't convenient for you.

03. 99 Old Trees

If eating durian on the kerb isn't your thing, 99 Old Trees is the move. Tucked along Teo Hong Road near Outram Park, this café-style setup is a refreshing take on the durian experience. Think air conditioning, charming vintage decor, and hand-painted murals alongside fresh fruit sourced daily from the team's own plantation in Raub, Pahang.

The menu goes beyond whole durians too. The MSW Chendol layers rich durian flesh over pandan jelly and gula melaka syrup in a way that's simultaneously cooling and indulgent. They also do durian cream puffs, Swiss rolls, and ice cream made from real MSW. A solid pick if you're bringing someone who's durian-curious but not quite ready for the full hand-scoop experience.

Eastside durian lovers, this one's yours. 227 Katong Durian has built a dedicated following for bringing in fresh durians straight from Pahang, and their variety selection is genuinely impressive — from the expected MSW and D13 to rarer finds like Green Bamboo and the occasionally elusive Black Thorn. Prices tend to be wallet-friendly compared to some of the more premium sellers in town, and they post updated prices on Facebook regularly so you know what you're getting into before you make the trip.

They source directly from their own plantation and sell the fruit on-site or will bring it to you at any time of the day. Durian cravings don't keep business hours, after all!

There's something about eating durian in a makeshift setup in a Dempsey carpark that just hits different. At Ah Di, the JB roadside vibes are real, the durian is good, and the owner himself will happily guide you through varieties if you're not sure what to pick.

Prices are generally consistent and reasonable, which is rare for this part of town. Don't know the difference between Black Thorn and Black Pearl? Just ask Ah Di. He'll sort you out.

Ask anyone in the neighbourhood for durian, and they'll send you here. 211 House of Durian carries a solid range including MSW, Pahang Black Gold, Black Thorn, and Golden Phoenix, and they run end-of-season durian buffets where you get an hour of unlimited MSW. Yes, really. They also sell durian soft serve and puree packs for those who want to bring the season home in baked form.

08. The Durian Tree

(Photo:The Durian Tree)

Bukit Batok doesn't always come up in conversations about durian, but it should. The Durian Tree is run by two brothers who've built their reputation on competitive pricing and variety — MSW, Wang Zhong Wang (said to be the most superior grade of MSW), Bekok S17, Black Pearl, and a handful of other varieties rotate in throughout the season.

Stock typically arrives around 3pm daily, so if you're planning a walk-in visit, that's your cue.
