The rod twitched, and the line’s meagre slack was pulled taut. Snapped from ennui, I tightened my grip. Too quick, and the cheap cord would snap. Too much give, and the prawn on the other end would make off with its’ bounty.
Prawning is a unique Singaporean pastime that combines the thrill of the hunt with the relaxation of a long chat. Whether you are a seasoned pro or someone who just wants to avoid another night of doomscrolling, these spots offer the perfect escape. Plus, you can even bring your own gear if you’re serious about your catch!
01 • Hai Bin Prawning at Punggol

Under the glow of warm lights, the atmosphere at Hai Bin Prawning is always buzzing. This spot is a favourite for many GetGoers because it’s open 24 hours, and there's something undeniably magical about prawning at 2am, when the rest of the city is fast asleep. The charcoal grills are always ready with the smell of roasting seafood, and there’s even a billiards place right next door.

02 • Fish Bugis+

Indoor comfort meets city convenience. If the heat is too much for you to handle, this air-conditioned rooftop pond is a literal lifesaver. Because it’s located right in the heart of the city, you can easily swing by after a movie or a dim sum feast. Fish Bugis+ is also smaller than most other prawning facilities, making for a cozy vibe. Plus, there’s no shortage of cheap parking nearby, too!

03 • Prawnzmanic

Formally known as Bait N Catch, Prawnzmaniac is perfect if you are planning a full day of sun and sand thanks to its Downtown East location. After you finish your prawning session, you can take a slow drive along the coast to enjoy the breeze. Absolute peace.
If you’re not one for prawns, your entry fee will also cover access to the freshwater fish pond. Fair warning, though: the fish will put up a far tougher fight than the prawns. In my hour spent at the fish pond, I caught just one fish for my troubles.

04 • Riviera Prawning

Riviera is often overlooked, but it's a genuine gem for those who prefer a quieter environment. Because the crowd is usually thinner here, you’ll have a better chance of emptying your mind and focusing on perfecting your technique, which you’ll want to do thanks to Riviera Prawning’s regular tournaments. The best anglers will usually win discounts and free prawning time, so prepare your best hooks and be sure to keep tabs on their Facebook page for announcements.
