In just a few days, swarms of children will be unleashed from their scholarly prisons to flood the great outdoors. As a former youthful ball of energy who would rather die than sit still and complete my holiday homework, my parents struggled to take me to interesting places that could stimulate my mind instead of boring me to sleep.
Besides driving to Malaysia for some out-of-country fun, ya’ll should take a look at some of the exciting events happening this month and make it a September to remember.💙
01 • Singapore Night Festival 🌙 (21 August – 5 September)
Anyone else suffering from the heat this month? It's just wayyy too warm to do anything in the day right now, but this cool and groovy festival can bring you some much needed relief from the sun.
With over 90 programmes spread across 2 weeks, you can enjoy the nighttime breeze while exploring a hidden side of Singapore. Some activities include: a scent-making workshop where you transform elements of Singapore folklore into your own signature mist, the first-ever MALAM showcase which uses The Cathay building exterior as a digital art canvas, and a spectacular fire and light performance on SMU Campus.
Slap on those mosquito patches, and you’re good to go!

02 • Lilytopia 🪷 (21 August – 27 September)
History and botany fanatics, this one’s for you. Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome is hosting its first Ancient Egypt-themed exhibition. Step into the world of regal pharaohs and let the lilies’ fragrance guide your way.
Walk like an Egyptian past the Sun God Ra’s solar barque and learn about how it ferries him across the sky and through the underworld. Hunt for the revered Egyptian Blue Lotus, a flower that was known as a symbol of rebirth and buried with pharaohs. Marvel at the 4.5m tall reconstruction of the ancient Abu Simel temple, including 4 enormous statues of King Ramesses II, who stoically watches over every guest who passes by.

03 • Baybeats 2026 🎸 (3 September – 6 September)
Singapore’s indie music scene has been popping off lately, so if you’re interested in exploring new bands or sounds, come down to the Esplanade for Baybeats 2026. With over 40 indie rock and alternative bands to listen to, you’ll definitely walk away with at least one new favourite song and some obscure merch to impress friends with.
Did I mention they’re collabing with Roblox too? For the uninitiated, Roblox is by far the most popular free-to-play game on the internet. Those who take part in the festivities on Baybeats’s Roblox server will stand a chance to win special in-game prizes. Concerts-wise, I’ll be chillaxing while listening to Soggy Jeans, Mediocre Haircut Crew, and BULGOGI DISCO’s live performances (yes, those are real band names).

04 • Singapore Botanic Gardens and Fort Canning Park Heritage Festival 🌱 (5 September – 13 September)
It’s been a little over 11 years since our Botanic Gardens were deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site. To celebrate, the Gardens are hosting several nature programmes for the public to connect with their green side.
Complete tasks and collect stamps across the Botanic Gardens and Fort Canning Park to win prizes for the Heritage Rally. Register for a ceramic-making workshop, craft your own liquid soap with herbs from Fort Canning Park’s spice garden, or work beside world-renowned orchid specialists for a day. Even if it's sweltering, having fun under the sun is what holidays are all about.☀️

05 • Central Singapore Market 🧑🌾 (12 September)
Lovingly labelled “A Market with a Difference”, the Central Singapore Market is where health and wellness enthusiasts congregate for the day. Here, local farmers, entrepreneurs, and artists showcase their goods while advocating for well-rounded and sustainable living.
You’ll find lots of fresh produce, artisanal crafts, and performances at this community event. September’s list of booth vendors hasn’t been released yet, but this year’s August market featured pony rides and a car boot sale (think suitcase rummage but with car boots instead). Last year, they even had insect-based food producers Insectyumz show off their best snacks, so you might see them again here.👀
If you see me at the market this year snacking on tom yum-flavoured crickets while riding a pony, no you didn’t.💙

06 • Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue ⛏️ (24 April – 13 September)
Maybe your kids are like me, hunching over a computer, tapping away until midnight, all to get that perfect set of netherite armour. If you’re worried your kids might end up a basement goblin with an aversion to sunlight, take them down to Mandai’s Minecraft Experience for a change of pace.

Contrary to its name, this IS yet another pet fair, but what makes it stand out from the rest?
How about: a daily pet blessing ceremony by Tibetan monks of Thekchen Choling Singapore, yoga and pilates with your furbabies, pet consultation with tarot card readings, live art portraits, and a free basic health check by a vet. Piqued your interest yet? If you’re looking for a furry addition to your family, you can grab a Kwazy Korndog and pet some cwazy cute dogs at the adoption zone. 09 • Artcade SG 🎨 ( 26 September – 27 September)
Attention, attention, all moon-walkers and extraterrestrial friends, Artcade SG cordially invites you to its newest space-themed artist alley event!
This year's theme is ‘A Cosmic Beginning’, so expect over 140 artists' worth of space-themed merchandise at the convention centre. Space obsession aside, you’ll also find anime, K-Pop, V-Tuber, and other subculture goodies for sale. These include, but aren’t limited to: riso prints, tote bags, enamel pins, and super stellar stationery. Look out for other cute activities, like a mini star jar workshop and a stamp rally, on your galactic adventure. It’s a small step for artists, and a giant leap for artistkind.🌟
